“Melanie was our agent while we looked from homes from spring 2016 until spring 2017 when we finally found the perfect house. She was unbelievably patient with us as we went back and forth between buying a lot, going with a lot and house contract, or going with an existing home. We felt so bad at times that she worked with us, unpaid, for so long and because we are such incredibly picky people no matter how much we saw, we struggled to make a decision. We had a list a mile long with our “dream house wants” and with every listing we saw she managed to get the vast majority of the items but because it was an absurd list, our budget and desires didn’t match up most of the time. We were a realtor’s nightmare and she never once acted frustrated with us, she just kept searching for more potential homes for us and helped us to see the potential for making a house our dream home! Both my wife and I work full-time and we have a very young child so Melanie was very aware of how valuable our time is. She worked closely with us to schedule as many showings as we could back to back and to also do it on week nights so that we could save our precious weekends to spend time with our son. Additionally, she had the tricky task of searching for some homes in areas outside of her typical radius, we looked in Bethany, Oxford, Southbury, Woodbury, Cheshire, and Woodbridge. When we couldn’t find a sitter for our son, she even helped play with him to give my wife and I time to walk about a showing and focus!! “As an out-of-state buyer with VERY specific requirements, my house hunting process was prolonged, stretching out over a period of 5 months; almost 7 months total including the weeks from the initial offer to closing. During this entire time, with it’s ups and downs and direction changes, Melanie remained patient, positive, and professional! I started my search at the beginning of September, just as the last of summer’s best inventory sold. Also, I was only in the area for a day, once or twice a month. With those two major factors, plus my list of requirements, it was hard to get traction, but Melanie persisted when others might have just given up and let the search “go cold”. Although I had done a lot of research on line and made at least two trips just to get a better feel for the various towns and specific neighborhoods, Melanie was a terrific source of information and local anecdotes. Mid-way, I threw her a “curve ball” and opened up the search to include multi-family properties in addition to single family homes. Ultimately, the multi-families were not workable and that part of the search was abandoned, but she remained unfazed, re-grouped and moved ahead. Melanie was quickly able to ascertain my opinion and never tried to “sell” me. She is a good listener and always polite and respectful. Melanie was able to “translate” my comments or feedback to others in a way that was both accurate AND appropriate. These are rare qualities in anyone. Melanie was especially helpful on days I was without a car; picking me up, getting me to the showings and dropping me back off at the station. One of the visits, a beautiful day in early October, she made sure to highlight some of the finest points of the city as we made our way. That particular trip, due in large part to Melanie, I knew that I had chosen the right spot. And on a very snowy day early in February, Melanie picked us up, got us to an all-important 2nd showing, on to her office to write the offer and safely back to the station in at least 12″ of snow! Her advice regarding the offer, counters and so on was sound and her knowledge of the various procedures and practices quite thorough. And although we hit a particular rough patch during the post-inspection negotiations, Melanie was unflagging and remained focused on making sure I was happy with the outcome. We navigated through to a successful closing and today I own a home I love, in no small part due to Melanie Gunn!”
